In my recent post titled, Embracing Daylight Saving Time, I mentioned being intentional. I emphasized capturing one hour a day just for ourselves. Today, I was thumbing through a back issue of one of my favorite magazines. The magazine is Magnolia Journal, and I have every issue published–a subscriber from day one. In the Fall 2020 issue, I ran across an article by Kate Waitzkin titled, Sacred Space. Tagline: Finding room in the day to simply be.
In this article, Kate guides us on how to best capture intentional moments in our day. The article can be found on her website. Double click link below. I wish there was a way to enlarge it but there isn’t. I hope you find her writings as inspiring as I do.

Key points from this article:
- Set aside 10 minutes a day for an activity that feeds and nourishes us. This practice creates a sacred space.
- We can visit there daily for rejuvenation, no matter what is happening in the world.
- This space becomes the time when we care for our spirit.
- The activity you choose doesn’t have to look the same for each day.
- This isn’t about adding another thing to your to-do list, but about carving out time and space to nurture yourself.
- Re-energized by the time we have gifted ourselves, we can show up in our lives with greater clarity. This gives us the capacity to make the most of all that comes our way.
She goes on to say,
“Over time, these moments of renewal can become natural, even essential, parts of our days.”
Kate offers ideas to use as inspiration as you think through activities that might nourish you.
- Bird-watching: connect with nature by taking a walk outside or sitting at your window and watching birds and wildlife.
- Plant care: tend to plants in and around your home, offering the water, attention, and care they need.
- Simply breathing: sit quietly with your eyes closed listening to the ins and outs of your breath.
- Sunset walk: walk to the end of your street or explore a new route around your neighborhood as the suns sets.
- Intention setting: take a few moments to journal about your intention for the day or an upcoming activity.

Oh, what a beautiful picture she paints with her inspiring words and guidance. The article also includes some questions to consider, as you start to create your own unique rituals for renewal.
I truly hope you take a moment to visit her website. You’ll find her other writings there, each one just as inspiring as Sacred Space.
Thank you for stopping by. Until next time, have a good day! ~ Hollie
